Care Pack #002

Grief Navigation Pack

Support for living with loss when the world keeps moving.

Before you begin, where are you right now?

One tap. It gives you something to measure against at the end.

1, settled10, at its worst

Grief does not move in straight lines. Some days feel quiet. Others feel heavy, sudden, or confusing. There is no correct pace, timeline, or emotional pattern. What you are experiencing is a natural response to loss.

Grief waves can feel intense, but they usually soften within minutes to hours when you allow them space.

Grief is not a problem to solve. It is a landscape to learn.

  1. 1.Place one hand on your chest
  2. 2.Say: "This is hard and I am here"
  3. 3.Breathe slowly for 3 cycles
  4. 4.Notice what you need right now
  5. 5.Do one gentle thing (water, a blanket, a step outside)

Immediate Grounding

Practice 1: The Body Check

Sit comfortably. Notice:

  • • where your body feels heavy
  • • where it feels empty or numb
  • • where it feels steady

No need to change anything.

Awareness without judgment helps the body feel accompanied.

Practice 2: The Name and Place

Silently name what you are grieving. Then name where you are right now.

Example: "I am grieving ____. I am sitting in ____."

This gently reconnects loss to the present moment.

What Grief Often Brings

Grief can include sadness, anger, relief, confusion, guilt, or even moments of calm. These shifts can happen within minutes. None of them mean you are grieving incorrectly.

Grief comes in waves. Feeling better does not mean you are forgetting. Feeling worse does not mean you are regressing.

Grief often resurfaces during quiet moments, anniversaries, or when life slows down. This is normal.

Ways to Move With Grief

Option A: Create Small Containers

Set aside short periods to acknowledge grief. Writing, walking, or sitting quietly. Containment prevents overwhelm.

Option B: Allow Mixed Days

You are allowed to function and grieve at the same time. One does not cancel the other.

Option C: Reach for Support

Grief does not require solitude.

Find Grief Support Resources

If your grief feels unbearable or isolating, connecting with others can help you feel less alone.

You are allowed to carry grief and still move forward.

Questions people ask

Is there free support for grief while waiting for a counselor?

Yes. The Grief Navigation Pack on this page is free: reflective practices, gentle containers for the hard days, and a downloadable PDF to keep. It will not replace a grief counselor, and it is not trying to. It is company for the wait.

Am I grieving wrong if I feel okay some days?

No. Grief does not move in straight lines. Feeling better does not mean you are forgetting, and feeling worse does not mean you are regressing. You are allowed to function and grieve at the same time.

What is a grief wave?

A surge of grief that arrives suddenly, sometimes without a clear trigger. Waves usually soften within minutes to hours when they are allowed to move rather than fought. The pack includes a practice for riding one out.

Is Fair Care free? Do I need an account?

Yes, free, and there is no account to make. Every pack is free to read, use, and download as a PDF that works offline. There is no sign-in anywhere on this site, no sign-up wall, no ads, and nothing you write is ever used for advertising or sold. Your check-ins and journal entries stay on your own device. The one thing that does leave is the optional 1 to 10 reading at the start and end of a pack, and only if you tap it: two numbers, anonymous, never linked to you, so we can tell whether a pack actually helped. If you reply to a check-in email, we store that reply so the letters can respond to it, and you can ask us to delete it any time.

Is this a substitute for therapy or medical care?

No. Fair Care is what you hold in the gap: the days or weeks between reaching out for help and being seen. If you are in immediate danger, call or text 988 in the US, or your local emergency number.

In immediate danger? Urgent support is here, always free, never gated.

You reached the end. Where are you now?

One tap, however it landed.
